Four Generations and Beyond – From Traditional Seafaring to International Shipbroking
The maritime heritage behind Flintholm ShipBrokers extends across more than four generations, with its roots firmly established along the Baltic coast of Northern Germany, where seafaring, shipping and maritime trade have shaped our family's history for generations.
Our ancestors served as maritime pilots, fishermen, traders and captains of privately owned sailing vessels, including large yachts operated for wealthy private owners. Their lives and livelihoods were closely connected to the sea, establishing a maritime tradition built on seamanship, responsibility, independence and practical experience.
This tradition continued through successive generations and developed into commercial shipping activities during the 1960s, when the family established passenger vessel operations and maritime services between Germany and Denmark.
These activities subsequently developed into Hochsee Angelfahrten GmbH and Maasholmer Seetouristik GmbH & Co. KG, operating sport fishing vessel and larger passenger ferries in the Baltic region for several decades.
Continuing the family's seafaring tradition, Captain Thorsten Bruhn pursued a career in international merchant shipping, spending 20 years at sea, including 10 years in command as Master.
His career subsequently developed ashore, with more than two decades of international experience in Shipowning, Ship Management, Chartering, Sale & Purchase, Port Agency Operations and Maritime Business Development.
Working with established international shipping organisations across Europe, the Mediterranean, the Middle East and Asia, this experience provided a broad commercial and operational understanding of the global maritime industry.
Today, this heritage and international experience form the foundation of Flintholm ShipBrokers GmbH.
